Is today your someday?
What day is it where you are? Monday? Tuesday? No matter what day it is, for many, it may be Someday. We all have a Someday. You know, that one special day where we stockpile our dreams and promises. Unlike all the other days of the week, which arrive on a regular basis, Someday comes sooner or later, ultimately, finally, or eventually. We wait for it to arrive because there’s so little time and so much to do on all the other days.
What dreams and promises have you saved for Someday? Have you had a conversation with yourself or someone else that goes like this, “Someday, I’ll organize the family photos. Someday, I’ll get in touch with my friend, who I haven’t seen or heard from since the pandemic began. Someday, I’ll go back to Ireland. Someday, I’ll read all the works of Maya Angelou.” Someday lists go on and on, but so does time.
By the time most of us get to our Someday lists, we have more time behind us than we have in front of us. The greatest mistake is waiting for our Someday to come. For years, I’ve blamed Someday for my delayed dreams and promises. That’s where they were locked up. So how could I get to them if Someday, who had the key, wasn’t showing up to unlock them?
Well, Someday has finally shown up for me. I was tired of waiting, so I extended an invitation. That’s all it took. I’ve learned that any today can be a Someday for me.
What if today is your Someday? What will you do with it? How will you spend it? And if you’re not convinced today is your Someday, consider this from author Israelmore Ayivor who wrote:
“Someday”
You said you’d do it yesterday ;
Yesterday, you said you’ll do it today.
Today, if you push it to tomorrow,
It’s likely tomorrow you’ll shift it to Someday!
Do it now!
